Permissive Tax Exemptions

On June 5, 2018, Council implemented a Permissive Tax Exemption Policy for organizations providing charitable and non-profit services primarily for the benefit of Town of Marystown residents. This tax exemption is meant to support the services and organizations which are the most complementary extension of municipal services and for which the burden resulting from the exemption is a justifiable expense to the taxpayers of Marystown. That support is directed towards services the Town would consider providing (in that they fulfill a basic need or improve quality of life) if the Town had the adequate resources to directly provide those services.

Organizations that applied for a tax exemption had to meet the criteria set out in the policy, which can be found on the Town's website, and had to have their application submitted by November 15, 2018, to be considered for the 2019 Budget.

On February 19, 2019, Council approved the following exemptions:

  • Grace Sparkes House Account No. GRACE001 for 2019 Business Tax in the amount of $437.10 and 2019 Property Tax in the amount of $3,496.80 for a total of $3,933.90
