Town Hall

It is with pleasure and enthusiasm that I write this message to welcome you to this web site. It has been created to show you how great a place Marystown is. After you’ve reviewed it and become virtually familiar with the community of Marystown, I hope you will discover our town to be the vibrant, attractive, and progressive place that makes it one of the foremost locations in Eastern Canada.

Marystown has an awful lot to offer, whether you are a businessperson looking for new investment opportunities; a tourist looking for a good time; or a new resident. Our town has a large pool of skilled workers. It has a world class ship repair and construction facility capable of handling contracts ranging from the construction of an oilrig supply vessel to refitting an attack submarine. It has a fish processing facility that employs several hundred people and has remained viable despite the implementation of a moratorium on the cod fishery in 1992. Our town also boasts a myriad of smaller enterprises, ranging from Chinese restaurants to industrial equipment suppliers. Despite Marystown’s comparatively small size, it offers an incredibly diverse range of goods and services.

Business is only one aspect of our town. It also offers a full array of locations, activities, and services that provide a plethora of opportunities for recreation. Want to take an art class? No problem: you can learn to do anything from oil paintings to ceramics to wood working. Feel like taking up a martial art or doing some big game hunting? We can help you there, too. We have a national standard track and field facility; soccer fields; softball pitches; tennis courts; walking trails; camping facilities; an arena; swimming pool. We even have a golf course. Whether you come here to live or just pass through, you won’t have any difficulty finding things to occupy your time. Your biggest problem will be trying to make a choice when confronted with such a range of activities.

It isn’t only the diversity of business and pleasure opportunities that makes Marystown such a great place, but its residents. The townspeople are a fantastic bunch. You won’t find a more helpful, friendlier, or more hospitable group of people anywhere in the world. Where else could you knock on someone’s door to ask for directions only to be invited in for a cup of tea or something stronger? Where else could you break down while driving through town to have a dozen people come immediately to your assistance, and offer to do everything from giving you a boost to putting you up for the night? There aren’t too many places like that, but Marystown is one of them. The warmth of its residents will overwhelm you.
Now that I’ve given you a brief introduction to our community, I hope I’ve piqued your curiosity. Take a few minutes to browse through the other sections of this web site to find more detailed information about the wonderful community we call our home.

Mayor Sam Synard
On behalf of the residents of Marystown
